Wayanad Landslides: Karnataka Pledged To Build 100 Houses For Victims

In Wayanad, the landslides which occurred in the early hours of July 30 have resulted over 300 deaths and 500 injuries.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Saturday that Karnataka will construct 100 houses for the victims of the landslides in Wayanad. The announcement of Karnataka government comes a day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pledged to construct 100 homes for those affected by the landslide.

Taking to X, Siddaramaiah said, "In light of the tragic landslide in Wayanad, Karnataka stands in solidarity with Kerala. I have assured CM Shri @pinarayivijayan of our support and announced that Karnataka will construct 100 houses for the victims. Together, we will rebuild and restore hope."

Congress MP Rahu Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the landslide-affected area of Chooralmala in Wayanad on Thursday and Friday.

Vadra also thanked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for Karnataka's gesture. "Thank you to @siddaramaiah Ji and the people of Karnataka for this gesture of compassion and humanity," she posted on 'X'.

The Kerala Chief Minister recently announced that the global community has positively responded to the appeal for contributions to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). Donations can be made online through various methods, with downloadable receipts available. However, the QR code system for UPI transactions has been discontinued to prevent misuse.

To coordinate global offers for providing land and constructing houses as part of the rehabilitation efforts, the state government has established a 'Help for Wayanad Cell,' led by Joint Land Revenue Commissioner A Geetha IAS.

"For donor communication, an email ID (helpforwayanad@kerala.gov.in) and a call center with dedicated phone numbers (9188940013, 9188940014, 9188940015) have been set up," the Chief Minister stated.

The landslides, which occurred in the early hours of July 30, have resulted over 300 deaths and 500 injuries. Around 300 people are still missing and rescue operators are battling adverse conditions, including waterlogged soil, as they search through the destroyed homes and buildings.
