WATCH: Bengaluru Man Breaks Car's Rear Window with Pliers, Sparks Debate On Rising Road Rage

Dhanush, the victim, recounted the incident, describing how a cab driver became increasingly aggressive in heavy traffic.

A recent road rage incident in Bengaluru has sparked outrage among citizens and evoked a response from Bengaluru police. The Citizens Movement, East Bengaluru shared a disturbing video on social media, showing a violent altercation involving a cab driver and a local resident, Dhanush, on August 5, 2024, near the Shantinikethan/Big Bazaar stop in Whitefield. The group raised concerns, questioning, "Why are people in Bengaluru becoming so intolerant?"

Dhanush, the victim, recounted the incident, describing how a cab driver became increasingly aggressive in heavy traffic. He claimed that he and the driver believed their vehicles had collided which reportedly prompted the latter to exit his car and confront Dhanush in a fit of rage.

"I tried to calm things down by suggesting we go to the police station to resolve it, but he only grew more hostile," Dhanush explained. "He began shouting and demanded I exit my car, and when he attempted to forcibly open my door and reach inside through the window, I was left with no choice but to use pepper spray in self-defense."

The situation reportedly escalated further as the driver retrieved a pair of pliers, smashed Dhanush's rearview mirror, and attempted to break the window. Dhanush said, "The driver then retrieved a pair of pliers, smashed my rearview mirror, and tried to break my window with multiple blows. Failing that, he began damaging my car’s bonnet and headlights, and I believe he intended to puncture my tires with a screwdriver. Eventually, I found space to escape and drove away."

Upon reaching home, Dhanush inspected his car, only to discover there was no damage from any collision. However, he expressed hesitation about reporting the incident due to concerns of potential retaliation, but he has since shared dashcam footage of the event, seeking guidance and support from the community.

The Bengaluru City Police responded to the incident on social media, stating, "We have notified the concerned officers for necessary action," and advised residents to dial emergency number #Namma112 in case of distress.
