A complaint has been filed against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, accusing him of concealing details about land owned by his wife in his election affidavit. TJ Abraham, President of the Karnataka Anti-Graft and Environmental Forum, filed the complaint on Wednesday, calling for proceedings against Siddaramaiah under various sections of the Representation of People's Act and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
Abraham's complaint alleged that Siddaramaiah, who was an MLA from the Varuna Assembly Constituency in Mysore district at the time, intentionally omitted information about agricultural lands owned by his wife in his 2015 election affidavit. The affidavit, submitted on April 15, 2013, along with his nomination papers for the 2015 assembly election, reportedly left blank the section detailing his spouse's property, according to a report on India Today.
The complaint stated that Siddaramaiah failed to disclose ownership of 3.16 acres of agricultural land, which was transferred to his wife, S.M. Parvathi, on August 6, 2010. The land was originally sold by Devaraju and family on August 25, 2004, to Siddaramaiah's brother-in-law B.M. Mallikarjuna Swamy while Siddaramaiah was the Deputy Chief Minister. The land was converted for residential purposes on July 15, 2005.
Abraham's complaint has been filed with the Chief Electoral Officer, alleging that Siddaramaiah submitted a false affidavit with his nomination papers during the 2015 state elections from the Varuna Constituency in Mysore district.
TJ Abraham has called for legal action and necessary proceedings under Section 125A and Section 8 of the Representation of People's Act, as well as sections 227, 229, 231, and 236 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita due to the alleged submission of a false affidavit along with nomination papers during the 2015 assembly election, aiming to uphold the law, as per a report on IANS.
