Himachal: Parents of Deceased Agniveer Soldier Demand Probe As They Raise Suspicion Over Son's Death In Kashmir

The parents of an Agniveer soldier who died in Kashmir have demanded an investigation into their son's death from the President and Prime Minister, alleging suspicious circumstances.

The parents of Agniveer soldier, who died in Kashmir earlier this week, have called on the President and Prime Minister to investigate the death of their son and ensure justice is served. Nikhil Dhadwal, stationed in the Tanda area of Akhnoor in Kashmir, passed away on Thursday. He was part of the first batch of Agniveers and had served in the Army for two years.

Daler Singh, Dhadwal’s father, who is also a taxi driver, stated that he was informed on the phone that his son sustained an injury and later died. He urged President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday to launch an inquiry into the cause of death, news agency PTI reported.

The soldier’s body was brought to his hometown of Lahlari in the Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh on Friday, where his last rites were performed with full state honors. His parents noted that the Army initially informed them that he was seriously injured but later updated them that he had died.

Justice must be served so that no one should be in fear before joining the Agniveer scheme, his father emphasised. Akhil, the deceased soldier's brother, also urged the government to investigate the death and provide justice. "How did the death happen? It should be found out," he said, as quoted by PTI.

Deceased Agniveer's Family Suspects Mystery Around Death

On Friday, emotional scenes unfolded as Akhil lit the funeral pyre in the presence of hundreds of locals and others. The family suspects there is a mystery surrounding the death of their son that should be investigated.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his condolences, stating that the news of Agniveer Nikhil's untimely death is very sad and wishing strength for the bereaved family.

"The news of untimely death of Agniveer Nikhil, a resident of Hamirpur, posted in Akhnoor area of ​​Jammu is very sad. May God give Nikhil a place in his feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this sorrow," he posted on X.

Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh and SP Bhagat Singh also paid their visit to the Nikhil's home to console the grieving family. Lt Col Varun Gandhi, who accompanied the body from Kashmir to Hamirpur, did not make any comment on the cause of the Agniveer's death.
