Devalali Pond Restoration Offers Scalable Model For Rural Water Conservation

Clear Premium Water restored Ramad village's Devalali pond, increasing its capacity to 2.64 crore litres. This boosts water security for 70 farming families and reduces groundwater pressure.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], July 3: In a major project in rural water conservation, CLEAR Premium Water, in collaboration with YFLO and the Dreams Foundation, has completed the restoration of Devalali pond in Sabarkantha’s Ramad village. Work on the project was concluded in the first week of June and is expected to yield tangible benefits beginning in the monsoon season.

The project involved deepening the pond by an additional 3 to 4 feet, raising its total storage capacity to over 2.64 crore litres. The enhanced capacity will reduce the pressure on groundwater sources while directly benefiting nearly 70 farming families who depend on the pond for irrigation and domestic water use.

Over the years, the pond had suffered from progressive siltation and a lack of regular upkeep, resulting in reduced water storage. With increasingly unpredictable rainfall patterns due to climate change, this intervention was both urgent and necessary. The restoration work demonstrates a scalable, community-led model of grassroots water management that is both cost-effective and impactful.

Speaking about the initiative, Nayan Shah, Founder and CEO of CLEAR Premium Water, said, “Water scarcity is not just a rural challenge; it is a systemic risk impacting our economy, health, and future resilience. At CLEAR, we believe true sustainability lies in empowering communities to live consciously and conserve efficiently. The restoration of the Ramad village pond is not just an infrastructure project; it is an investment in water security, agricultural productivity, and community well-being. This initiative exemplifies the transformative power of collective action when businesses, civil society, and local communities unite around a shared vision for meaningful impact.”

The restored pond is expected to recharge fully during the ongoing monsoon, offering a reliable water source throughout the year for irrigation and local use. In addition to supporting agriculture and improving local resilience to climate variability, the project has fostered a strong sense of community ownership and responsibility by involving local stakeholders.

With the combined efforts of CLEAR Premium Water, YFLO, Dreams Foundation, and the villagers themselves, this initiative is poised to bring long-lasting change to Ramad village and become a benchmark for replicable, grassroots water conservation in India.
