Delhi Minister Atishi Orders Magisterial Probe, BJP Accuses AAP Of 'Criminal Negligence'

Delhi Minister Atishi informed that a probe has been launched into the incident as she emphasised that whoever is responsible will not be spared.

Atishi took to X to express her concern, stating, "There is news of an accident due to heavy rain in Delhi in the evening. There is news of water filling in the basement of a coaching institute in Rajendra Nagar. Delhi Fire Department and NDRF are on the spot. Delhi Mayor and local MLA are also there. I am taking updates on the incident every minute. A magistrate has been ordered to investigate how this incident happened. Whoever is responsible for this incident will not be spared."

Atishi directed the Delhi Chief Secretary to initiate a magisterial inquiry and provide a report within 24 hours on the incident.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also reacted to the incident, with State President Virendra Sachdeva, who was at the site with MP Bansuri Swaraj, stating, "This accident clearly occurred due to the lack of drain cleaning, resulting in a rapid backflow of drain water into the basement of the coaching centre. The Delhi government's criminal negligence is responsible for this accident. Water Board Minister Atishi and local MLA Durgesh Pathak should take responsibility and resign."

"This is a murder and is an example of Arvind Kejriwal's corruption. Locals here had urged AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak multiple times to get the drain here cleaned. We still don't know about the casualties yet. This is very saddening," Sachdeva told PTI.

MP Bansuri Swaraj expressed similar sentiments as she said, "From the past one week, locals here were urging AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak to get the drain here cleaned. However, Durgesh Pathak didn't listen to them. Arvind Kejriwal, Durgesh Pathak and the AAP government are entirely responsible for this incident."

The rain earlier today caused significant disruptions across the capital. Traffic has been severely affected on several roads due to waterlogging. The Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters to avoid Anuvrat Marg near Qutub Minar Metro station, Chatta Rail Chowk, Nigam Bodh Ghat, and Guru Ravi Das Marg near Tank Road Chowk due to waterlogging and the uprooting of a tree. ALSO READ | Delhi: Rain Relief From Humid Heat Turns To Waterlogging, Visuals Surface As Locals Share Woes
