Delhi: An elderly couple died and their son was injured after the roof of their house collapsed in Rohini's Prem Nagar area on Wednesday. The 45-year-old Vinod, who sustained injuries is receiving treatment at the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.


The fire officials had received a call regarding the roof collapse at around 3 am today, following which they rushed to the spot. 


"We immediately rushed three fire tenders and a rescue team to the spot. Three people were brought out from the rubble and taken to a nearby hospital," a Delhi Fire Services official told news agency PTI.


"Vinod is getting treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. We have informed the local police," he added.


Police Say 'No Foul Play Was Noticed' In The Incident


The police stated that they received a call at Prem Nagar police station around 2:57 am, informing them about casualties in a roof collapse in the area.


"Local police immediately reached the spot and found three people injured. They were shifted to a hospital where two were declared brought dead. Vinod, the victims' son, was discharged after treatment," a senior officer said.


The deceased have been identified as 85-year-old Sukhran and his 75-year-old wife Gayatri Devi. Their bodies were taken for post-mortem and handed over to the relatives later.


The police officer said that the preliminary inquiries revealed that the roof of the old house collapsed during the night when the family were sleeping inside.


The police also said that necessary legal action had been taken into the matter, adding that no foul play was noticed.


Earlier this month, two children were killed and nine others were injured after the roof of a dilapidatd house collapsed in Uttarakhand's Haridwar.


The deceased were identified as Aas Mohammed (10) and Nagma (8).


Haridwar District Magistrate Dhiraj Singh Garbyal stated that the roof collapsed following heavy rainfall, trapping 11 people inside the debris.


These people were resuced and hospitalised for treatment, news agency ANI reported.
