A 34-year-old neurosurgeon working at All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi died by suicide after allegedly overdosing on medication at his home in Gautam Nagar. According to Delhi Police, the doctor was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.


In the initial inquiry, the police suggested that a family dispute could have been the reason behind the suicide. A suicide note was also discovered at the scene.


Police sources revealed that the doctor, identified as 34-year-old Raj Ghonia, had been involved in a dispute with his wife, who had gone to her maternal home for Raksha Bandhan. Following her departure, the doctor reportedly took the drastic step of ending his life by overdosing on drugs.

Delhi Police Find AIIMS Doctor's Suicide Note


A suicide note was found at the scene, in which Dr Raj Ghonia stated that he was taking his own life of his own volition and did not hold anyone responsible for his death. The police have noted that further details cannot be disclosed at this time.


Preliminary investigations suggest that the death was caused by a drug overdose. The police are currently awaiting the post-mortem report. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. Sources indicate that Dr Raj Ghonia's wife is also a doctor, and the couple had been dealing with domestic conflict. The police have stated that more information will be provided once the investigation is complete.
