A hit-and-run case was reported from Delhi after a speeding Mercedes ran over a cycle rider in the city's Ashram area on Saturday. Rajesh, 32, who was cycling was killed in the accident and the driver fled from the spot but was arrested later. 


Rajesh worked as a gardener and died on the spot after getting seriously injured following the collision. 


An FIR was registered in connection with the matter and the police started searching the car driver based on the CCTV footage and the accused Pradeep Gautam was arrested.

The accused is a resident of Noida and he bought the car a month ago. The car was registered in the name of a company and according to reports, the ownership of the vehicle was not yet transferred to the name of accused Pradeep Gautam. 


The incident took place at around 8:30 am on Saturday at the Ashram flyover and the passerby had called the PCR, informing about the incident after which the police reached the spot. 


Rajesh, a resident of Madanpur Khadar, was taken to a hospital but was declared dead. The police booked a case linked to the incident under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. 


The police searched 12 different CCTV footage installed at the spot and found the number of the car. On this basis, a further search for the accused was started.

The incident comes after the two hit-and-run cases that sparked outrage in the country 


On May 19, a Porsche car, allegedly driven by a minor under the influence of alcohol hit two IT professionals killing them in Pune. The case drew a sharp reaction from the general public after the accused juvenile was told to write a 300-word essay on road safety to get bail. 


In another case, the son of a leader from Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena mowed down a couple on his BMW car in Mumbai, killing the wife. The accused, Mihir Shah was later arrested by the police.
