Bihar Police have detained four persons for questioning in connection with the alleged murder of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani's father, Jitan Sahanai, in Darbhanga. Sahani was found murdered at his ancestral home in Bihar's Darbhanga district on Tuesday, with several stab injuries and cut marks on his chest and stomach.
As per the authorities, two of the suspects had previously borrowed money at interest from the deceased. These two men were involved in a heated argument with Sahani days before his murder, India Today reported, citing sources.
Earlier, Darbhanga (Rural) SP Kamya Mishra told news agency PTI that three people were detained for questioning in the case. "Three people have been detained. We are questioning them based on CCTV footage. Apart from that, we are also looking at fingerprints; the FSL team came and collected fingerprints from the site. We are considering all angles."
As per the India Today report, investigators are currently examining call data records and financial transactions between the detainees and the deceased.
Jitan Sahani's last rites were performed on Tuesday. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the district police was constituted to investigate the matter, the Darbhanga Police stated in a statement.
Following the incident, many leaders, including Union minister and chief of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Chirag Paswan, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and state BJP chief, Samrat Choudhary, and RJD leader and party MLC, Shakti Singh Yadav, among others, condemned the alleged murder of Sahani's father.
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav condemned the murder of Jitan Sahani. He slammed the Bihar and central governments over the state's law and order situation and said that crimes are happening despite a double-engine government in the state.
