A woman junior doctor was brutally attacked by a patient at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) in Tirupati. The assault has come amid ongoing concerns over the safety of medical professionals in the country following the recent rape and murder at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The incident in Tirupati came to light after the CCTV footage went viral on social media.
The CCTV footage showed the patient suddenly grabbing the junior doctor by her hair and violently slamming her head against the steel frame of a hospital bed, as reported by NDTV. The unexpected attack immediately triggered a response from other medical staff in the ward, who rushed to the doctor's aid. With coordination, the other doctors managed to overpower the assailant and remove him from the scene.

However, the things that led to the assault remain unclear, as per a report on India Today. However, it has sparked outrage among the doctors. Soon, the doctors and other medical staff staged a protest at the hospital demanding to ensure their safety at the workplace. The SVIMS Junior Doctors Association reacted to the incident and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
The incident also comes amid widespread attack condemning the rape and murder of a PG trainee doctor in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the Apex Court has also set up a 10-member National Task Force to recommend steps to prevent the violence against doctors. They have also been sought to ensure improved working conditions for healthcare workers.
