In yet another industrial accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district, four workers from a pharmaceutical unit were injured in the early hours of Friday. The incident took place at Synergies Active Ingredients, located in Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City in Parawada.


Officials reported that the accident occurred while workers were mixing chemicals, leading to burn injuries. The injured were promptly rushed to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam, where one of the workers is said to be in critical condition. All four injured workers are reported to be from Jharkhand. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, according to a report on IANS.


Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu immediately responded to the incident, speaking with Anakapalli district collector Vijaya Krishnan and instructing her to ensure that the injured workers receive the best possible medical treatment. He also directed Home Minister V. Anitha and top officials to rush to the site and visit the workers who are undergoing treatment in Visakhapatnam.


This incident marks the second major industrial accident in Anakapalli district within a span of 48 hours.


17 deaths in Anakapalli explosion


On August 21, a reactor explosion at Escientia Advanced Sciences Private Limited in Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ) claimed 17 lives and injured 36 others. The Chief Minister had visited the injured at hospitals in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli on Thursday, announcing an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore for the families of the deceased and Rs 50 lakh for the critically injured. The CM also announced Rs 25 lakh for others who were injured in the mishap.


The CM also visited the mishap cite and stressed that safety should be top priority of the managements. 


Since 2019, Naidu told IANS, the combined Visakhapatnam district reported 119 industrial accidents in which 120 people died.
