Ex-Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Reddy, Senior Officers Booked In 'Attempt To Murder' Case

The case stems from allegations of third-degree torture against the then-rebel YSRCP MP, now TDP MLA, Raghu Rama Krishna Raju.

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with two high-ranking police officers, has been booked by the Guntur Police. The case stems from allegations of third-degree torture against the then-rebel YSRCP MP, now TDP MLA, Raghu Rama Krishna Raju.

The FIR, based on a complaint by Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, names YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, former CID chief PV Sunil Kumar, and former Intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu.

"Raju sent his police complaint through mail one month ago and after taking legal opinion, I registered a case at 7 pm on Thursday against the former CM and others," the official told PTI.

According to the complaint, Raju was arrested by CID officials in Hyderabad in 2021. The officials did not produce him before the local magistrate in Hyderabad nor obtained a transit arrest warrant, instead transferring him directly to the CID office in Guntur.

In his complaint, Raju has made severe allegations, stating that some police officers, along with PV Sunil Kumar IPS, Sitaramanjanayulu IPS and other police subordinates, came to the CID office and "beat him with rubber belts and sticks". He alleged that they did not even allow him to take medicines for his heart ailment, despite knowing that he had undergone heart bypass surgery. He also claimed that some officers sat on chest and applied pressure, attempting to kill him.

Raju also alleged that he was subjected to "custodial torture," the official added.

Police booked the five accused persons under IPC Sections 120 B, 166, 167, 197, 307, 326, 465 and 506 read with 34. The police invoked the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as the case is three years old.

Additionally, he claimed that he was threatened for his life. Meanwhile, Guntur Police stated that apart from the alleged accusations, the complainant has mentioned several serious, heinous nature charges against many individuals, which need to be investigated by the proper police authority."
