At least six people, including four children and a woman, drowned in a water body near Maharashtra's Bhushi Dam in Lonavala after the dam overflowed due to heavy rain on Sunday, news agency PTI reported on Sunday. The incident occurred at 1:30 PM, prompting immediate action from the search and rescue team.

"One more body recovered and the rescue operations have been halted for today. The search and rescue will resume tomorrow morning," news agency ANI reported citing Pune Rural Police.

Earlier in the day, Pune SP Pankaj Deshmukh told PTI: "Two bodies have been recovered. Search and rescue operations are ongoing. All five persons are from one family residing in Pune's Sayyed Nagar".

"We have recovered the bodies of a 40-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl. Two 6-year-old girls and a 4-year-old boy are still missing. It appears they were part of a family that slipped into a waterfall approximately two kilometres from Bhsuhi Dam and drowned in the downstream reservoir," he added.

6, Including 4 Children, Driwn In Delhi Floods

In separate incidents in Delhi, an old man, a youth, and four children drowned due to heavy rain that has paralysed the city, officials told the news agency PTI.

A 60-year-old drowned in a flooded underpass in Delhi's Okhla, which remained submerged for over 24 hours due to continuous rainfall on Saturday. The man, identified as Digvijay Kumar Chaudhary, was a resident of Jaitpur in Delhi.

The incident came to light when Okhla Industrial Area Police Station received a call on Friday at around 6:30 AM. Police arrived at the scene and found Chaudhary. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

In a related incident in April 2024, the Ghataprabha River in Karnataka caused waterlogged streets in the Belagavi district due to overflow from a local dam.

The Raja Lakhamagouda Dam, also known as the Hidkal Dam, spans the Ghataprabha River within the Krishna River basin. Located in Hidkal village, Hukkeri Taluk, Belagavi, it serves as a major hydraulic structure.
