At least three persons were killed Saturday in two separate incidents of waterlogged underpasses. Delhi Police reported that a man drowned at the Okhla underpass after heavy rains. A PCR call alerted the police to the incident, and officers arrived to find a man drowned in the water. He was riding a scooter and was declared dead upon arrival at AIIMS Trauma Centre. Legal action is being initiated according to the procedure.
2 Boys Drown In Siraspur Underpass
In another incident, two boys drowned in the waterlogged Siraspur underpass in outer Delhi's SP Badli area. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, following heavy rains the previous day. The underpass was flooded with 2.5-3 feet of water, news agency PTI reported.
Police received a call about the boys drowning around 2:25 PM and immediately dispatched a team to the location. A search operation, assisted by the fire brigade, led to the recovery of the bodies.
As per the report, one boy was a resident of Siraspur, while the other's identity is yet to be confirmed. Initial reports suggest the boys drowned while bathing. The bodies were taken to Babu Jagjeevan Ram Hospital.
"The bodies have been shifted to Babu Jagjeevan Ram Hospital. An inquest proceeding under 174 Code of Criminal Procedure is underway," an official familiar with the incident was quoted as saying by PTI.
3 Dead In Vasant Vihar Collapse
In a separate rain-related incident in Vasant Vihar, the bodies of three labourers were recovered from the debris of a collapsed wall at a construction site on Saturday.
"The bodies of three labourers were on Saturday pulled from the rubble of a wall that collapsed at a construction site in the Vasant Vihar area here amid heavy rain," an official told PTI.
The incidents were reported after the national capital received the most significant rainfall in June in 88 years on Friday.
As per the report, emergency response teams continue to conduct search and rescue operations across affected areas to ensure there are no further casualties.
