New Delhi: A budding wrestler Nisha Dahiya and her brother were shot dead on Wednesday by an unidentified assailant at Sushil Kumar Academy in Haryana's Sonepat. During the incident, Nisha Dahiya's mother was also injured and her condition remains critical. She has been admitted to PGI Hospital in Rohtak. Police reached the spot and have sent bodies of Nisha Dahiya and her brother Suraj for postmortem to Sonipat's civil hospital.
According to media reports, an unidentified assailant opened fire on local wrestler Nisha Dahiya and her brother at Sushil Kumar Academy located in Halalpur, Sonepat. Both siblings died on spot, while the condition of the mother remains critical. Police are investigating the incident and the reason behind the shooting is yet to be ascertained.
Unfortunately, the reports of death was soon mistaken as death of Under-23 world championship bronze-medallist Nisha Dahiya, who is currently in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh to compete in National Championships.
"Hello, my name is Nisha. I have come to play senior nationals in Gonda, and I am totally fine. And it (news of death) is fake news. I am totally fine," she said in a video.
"Wrestler shot dead in Sonepat is newcomer Nisha Dahiya, not U-23 world championship bronze-medalist," Coach who travelled with Indian team told news agency PTI
SP Sonipat Rahul Sharma said, "This Nisha Dahiya (shot dead) & medalist wrestler Nisha Dahiya are 2 different people. The medalist wrestler belongs to Panipat & is at an event now"
For further clarifications, even wrestler Sakshi Malik tweeted a picture with National level wrestler Sakshi Dahiya to reiterate that she is safe and alive.
