New Delhi: Two children died after they drowned in Koel river during Chhath festivities in Palamu district of Jharkhand.
The deceased have been identified as Shashi Kumar (10) and Saajan (7), sons of Raju Bhuiyan of Rajhara village.
According to the police sources, the incident took place when the wife of Raju Bhuiyan's brother-in-law had gone for a ritualistic bath at the river ghat in Rajhara. She was also accompanied by Raju's wife and children.
Police said Shashi Kumar was pulled out of the river by some locals while the body Saajan could not be retrieved.
Circle officer Rajesh Kumar Sah said Shashi Kumar was rushed to Medini Rai Medical College Hospital for treatment where doctors declared him brought dead. Further investigation in the case is underway, police said.

Four children killed in Giridih
On Tuesday, in a similar incident, four children died after they drowned in a river in Jharkhand's Giridih district. They had tagged along with some women who had gone for a bath during Chhath festivities in Mangrodih village under Muffasil police station.
