IND vs PAK, Women's T20 World Cup Highlights: India Beat Pakistan By 7 Wickets

Background

Team India will begin their Women's T20 World Cup 2023 campaign with a high-pressure game against Pakistan at the Newlands in Cape Town, South Africa. Even though there are always eyeballs on whenever the two South East Asian neighbours take on each other across any sporting discipline, and hence perhaps the added nerves among the players, statistics show that the Women in Blue have dominated this rivalry.

The two sides have come against each other a total of 13 times in the shortest format of the game and while India have emerged victorious on 10 of these matches, Pakistan have tasted win just thrice. However, India have been handed a major blow before the Pakistan game as their vice-captain and one of the pillars of their batting Smriti Mandhana is unlikely to take the field after sustaining an injury.

Will that make the Indian side nervous heading into this game?

On the other hand, Pakistan would want to take a lot of confidence knowing full well that the last time these two sides met in a T20 international, at the Women's Asia Cup 2022, it was them who had the last laugh, beating the eventual champions India by 13 runs. That victory would be fresh in their minds and would remind them that it is possible for them to beat India despite the latter having a better head-to-head record.

When it comes to the T20 World Cups, here again India lead 4-2 but 2 of Pakistan's 3 wins against India have come in this tournament itself. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team also won against Pakistan in their Commonwealth Games face off last year. Having said that, India will also not underestimate Pakistan who can stun them like in the Asia Cup.

The match has all the ingredients of being a riveting affair. Follow ABP Live for every major update!
