Why Sourav Ganguly cannot become BCCI interim president

Why Sourav Ganguly cannot become BCCI interim president New Delhi: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s name has been doing the rounds as the possible interim president of BCCI, following the removal of president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke. Legends like Sunil Gavaskar have also voted for Ganguly’s elevation to clean-up Indian cricket. But chances of Ganguly taking over the reigns are next to impossible.      The bench comprising of Chief Justice T.S. Thakur, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud ordered a ‘cease and desist’ order for Anurag Thakur and Ajay Shirke for not abiding by the recommendations of SC appointed Lodha committee. The same Lodha Committee’s recommendations will not allow Sourav Ganguly to be the interim president of BCCI. Also read: Gavskar backs Ganguly for BCCI interim president According to Lodha Committee’s recommendations a person must not hold on to a post for more than three years and he cannot take over another post before the completion of his term. Sourav Ganguly is currently serving as the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Ganguly took over the highest position of CAB after the demise of cricket administrator Jagmohan Dalmiya in 2015. So, effectively he still has to serve 2 more years before he becomes eligible to take up another official position in Indian cricket. Ganguly himself was aware of the fact and has ruled out the possibilities of him taking over as BCCI interim president. "It's better not to take my name. There is no reason to take my name. It's too early. I still have two more years in the position. The recommendations have put a cap of three years for one post," Ganguly said. The BCCI is still under as all the five vice presidents are eligible to adorn the interim president’s post.
