'Do Not Believe': Ratan Tata Rejects Reports Claiming He Announced Rs 10 Cr Reward For Cricketer Rashid Khan

Ratan Tata on Monday refuted the reports claiming he has announced a financial support of Rs 10 crore to Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khand.

Tata Trusts Chairman Ratan Tata on Monday refuted the reports that claimed he made an announcement to give a reward of Rs 10 crore to Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khan after news went viral that Khan was fined Rs 55 lakhs by the ICC for displaying the Indin flag after victory over Pakistan. Ratan Tata took to X, formerly Twitter, and said he made no suggestions to the ICC or any cricket faculty about any cricket member regarding a fine or reward to any players.

"I have made no suggestions to the ICC or any cricket faculty about any cricket member regarding a fine or reward to any players. I have no connection to cricket whatsoever," he said, urging people to "not believe WhatsApp forwards and videos of such nature unless they come from my official platforms."

Afghanistan defeated Pakistan on October 23 by eight wickets and the players celebrated on the ground. Later, news went viral that Rashid Khan displayed the Indian flag during the celebrations and hence a fine of Rs 55 lakhs was imposed on him. However, there has been no official confirmation if something like this has really happened.

"Pakistan Complain to ICC aganist Rasid Khan during his victory celebration with indian flag ICC fine 55 lakh aganist Rasid Khan but Ratan Tata declare 10 crore to Rasid Khan," an X user with handle @Gurupra62640661 said in a post.

Another user (@mahesh_2901) congratulated Ratan Tata claiming that the visionary Indian industrialist has "extended" financial support to Rashid Khan.

"I congratulate Sri Ratan Tata for extending financial support to cricketer Rashid khan who has been fined ₹55 lacs by ICC for braving Bhartiya flag on his chest while celebrating victory over Pakistan. OUR SICKULAR JOURNALIST are silent over this," the post on  X read.

As for the World Cup, Afghanistan is at present in seventh position on the points table with two wins out of five matches it has played so far. It will face Sri Lanka on Monday. Catch all live updates here.
