Star batter Mayank Agarwal was made the captain of Punjab Kings, last year, but he is likely to be removed from the captaincy post after one season, Insidesport reported. Punjab Kings will likely enter the next season i.e IPL 2023 with a new captain and coach. The franchise will reportedly also not extend the contract of coach Anil Kumble, an official of the franchise informed InsideSport about this. As per the report, England's flamboyant batter Jonny Bairstow could lead Punjab in IPL 2023.
Punjab Kings are in touch with stalwarts like Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss for their next coach, though no final decision has been taken yet. Talking about Mayank Agarwal, his team will not release nor trade him. The senior opener will remain part of Punjab Kings but will not take over the command of the team in IPL 2023.
“No Mayank is not in plans to lead. He will need to focus on batting. He will be a crucial player for us. As for Anil, we are discussing a few options but nothing has materialized yet. We have time left. We will take a call at the right time,” a Punjab Kings official told InsideSport.
