The world of professional wrestling is mourning the loss of one of its most iconic figures, Hulk Hogan, who has passed away at the age of 71, AFP reported.

Known for his immense charisma, unmatched presence, and unforgettable catchphrases, Hogan was a global superstar who helped catapult wrestling into mainstream popularity during the 1980s and 1990s.

"WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away," the sport said in a statement. "One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s.WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans."

Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan rose to fame with his larger-than-life persona in the WWE (then WWF), becoming a household name through legendary feuds, championship wins, and electrifying appearances in WrestleMania events. With his trademark handlebar mustache, bandana, and booming “Hulkamania” chants, he became a symbol of the golden era of wrestling.

Hall of Fame and Legacy

Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 and again in 2020 as part of the legendary New World Order faction, Hogan’s career embodied both triumph and controversy. Despite stepping away from wrestling in 2012, he remained a respected figure—launching his own wrestling promotion, participating in media appearances, and nurturing emerging talent.

Rise to Fame

Hogan debuted in professional wrestling in the late 1970s but truly became a household name in the 1980s after joining the WWF (now WWE).

With his booming charisma, he led the rise of “Hulkamania,” transforming wrestling into mainstream entertainment. He captured the WWF World Heavyweight Championship multiple times and headlined massive events like WrestleMania, igniting a cultural revolution that reshaped sports and entertainment.

Though his journey had highs and lows, his impact remains undeniable.
