Vinesh Phogat CAS Verdict Deferred Yet Again; Court Of Arbitration For Sport To Give Verdict On This Date

Vinesh Phogat CAS Verdict: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has deferred its verdict on the Indian wrestler's yet again, announcing a new date for the same.

Vinesh Phogat CAS Verdict: The Court Of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has deferred its verdict on Vinesh Phogat's plea against her disqualification from Paris Olympics 2024 yet again. Notably, Phogat was disqualified from the women's 50kg freestyle wrestling on the morning of her gold medal bout, resulting in a heart-breaking medalless run from the women's wrestling contingent after India slept the previous night with the assurance of at least a silver medal.

At the time of weigh-in before the Gold Medal bout, Vinesh Phogat was found to be 100 grams overweight. The wrestler was neither given more time to reduce her weight, nor was given the silver medal even though she qualified for the final on merit and fully within the rules of the sport. Vinesh formally filed a plea at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) challenging the Olympic committee's decision and demanding that she be given a joint-silver medal.

CAS Verdict Was First Expected To Come Out On August 10

Notably, the CAS was initially expected to pass the judgement on August 10, having heard the arguments of all parties on the previous day. However, it was then deferred to August 13, asking all the concerned parties to submit additional documents before August 11. However, the decision has been postponed yet again with the verdict now expected to come out on August 16.
