Manu Bhaker Wins In Paris Olympics 2024: India have opened their account in Paris Olympics 2024 and it's come off a sport where they drew blank in the previous two Olympic Games. Manu Bhaker of India ended India's medal drought in shooting and clinched a bronze medal in the women's 10m air pistol final to ensure a podium finish in the French capital on Sunday (July 28).
Bhaker is now the first Indian women shooter to win an Olympic medal.
While Bhaker finished second with 50.4 after the first 5-shot series, she dropped to third place after the second 5-shot series with a cumulative of 100.3 points. She, however, hit a 10.5 in her first individual shot. Only 0.7 points was the difference between Bhaker and the top spot after 13 shots where Bhaker was at 131 points.

Bhaker secured a bronze medal in the women's 10m air pistol final competition with a score of 221.7. This achievement marks the start of India's medal tally in shooting at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

PM Modi Congratulates Manu Bhaker On Historic Achievement
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi not only took to X to congratulate the 22-year-old shooter on her achievement but even called up the shooter and expressed confidence in her for her future performances in the Paris Games.
"A historic medal! Well done, @realmanubhaker, for winning India’s FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats for the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement," PM Modi wrote in his social media post.

It was the Korean duo of Y.J. Kim and Y.J Oh who bagged the gold and the silver medals respectively in the Women's 10m air pistol event. Bhaker will also be featuring in the women's 25m pistol event as well as 10m air pistol mixed team.
