Lakshya Sen Fails To Script History, Loses Bronze Medal Match In Paris Olympics 2024 After Taking Lead

Lakshya Sen lost to Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia 21-13, 16-21, 11-21 to miss out on a podium finish in the Paris Olympics 2024.

Lakshya Sen has failed to etch history. The 22-year-old Indian star had the opportunity to be the first male badminton player to win an Olympic medal when he was up against his Malaysian opponent Lee Zii Jia in the Bronze medal match and even took the lead by winning the opening game but that was not to be as he went on to lose successive games 16-21, 11-21. Sen had earlier lost the semifinal clash against the Danish Viktor Axelsen after an aggressive game play to begin with.

In the semifinal match where he entered as the underdog, he dominated the majority of the  opening game and was even on games point but he went on to lose in straight games. In the second game too, he was 7-0 up at one stage but went on to lose the match 20-22, 14-21.

Had My Chancees And Could Have Done Better: Lakshya Sen

Lakshya Sen opponent's in the bronze medal match Lee Zii Ji, however, might have lost the opening game but came back from behind to register a dramatic win. Sen had the better record against Lee heading into this match but still could not get the win that would have added to India's medal tally which remains stuck at three.

"I had my chances in the second set and could have definitely done better. But credit to him, he played a really good game. I think at the moment I'm just not able to think right now," Sen said in an on-court interview after the match.

"I came well prepared for this match as well. It has been quite a tough week overall. But yeah, the fatigue kept on building. But I mean, I was ready to give my 100 per cent in this match," the 22-year-old added.
