India concluded their Paris Olympics 2024 campaign when Reetika Hooda lost to top-seeded Aiperi Medet Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan in the women's 76 kg freestyle wrestling quarterfinals on August 10. Hooda could have advanced to the repechage round if Kyzy had defeated USA's Kennedy Alexis Blades in the semifinal, but that did not happen. With the loss, India's participation in the Games ended with a total of six medals with one silver and five bronze medals. India will return one shy of the seven medals won in the Tokyo Olymoics 2020.

India's medal tally at the Paris Olympics 2024 features Manu Bhaker winning bronze in the 10m Air Pistol (women) and also in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh. Swapnil Kusale secured a bronze in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions, while the Indian men’s hockey team earned a bronze medal by defeating Spain 2-1. Neeraj Chopra won silver in the men's javelin throw, and Aman Sehrawat claimed bronze in the men’s freestyle 57kg wrestling category.

Can There Be A Seventh Medal For India At Paris 2024?

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has delayed its decision on Vinesh Phogat's appeal, extending the deadline to August 11, 2024. Vinesh, disqualified from the gold medal bout in the women’s 50kg wrestling event at the Paris Olympics 2024 due to being overweight, appealed for a joint-silver medal. The final verdict on her appeal is set to be issued by 6:00 PM on August 11 as per an official statement by the International Olympics Committee (IOC).

With six medals already secured, India’s chances for a seventh medal depend on a favourable ruling for Vinesh Phogat from CAS, which could potentially award her a silver medal. However, the chances of that happening are very slim.
