Nikhat Zareen Strikes Gold At Women's World Boxing Championships, Beats Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Tam In Final
Women's World Boxing Championships: Nikhat Zareen became the first Indian boxer after the legendary MC Mary Kom to claim the title more than once.
New Delhi: Nikhat Zareen bagged her second World Title in the Women's World Boxing Championships when she beat Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam in the 50 kg finale at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in the National Capital on Sunday.
Nikhat won by a unanimous 5-0 verdict to help India bag their third gold medal in this edition of the tournament with Nitu Ghanghas and Saweety Boora having already made India proud by taking the top position on the podium in the 48 kg and 81 kg category respectively.

The 26-year-old continued her dominant run in the competition and after having defeated Colombia's Ingrit Valencia of Colombia 5-0, she excelled in the finale beating a two-time Asian Games champion, dominating from the first round. Even though, she received a warning in the second round for keeping her head low, not much damage was done eventually with the Indian coming out on top. Zareen who had won the gold medal in the previous edition of the Championships became just the second Indian boxer after the legendary MC Mary Kom to have won more then one World Title.
Zareen also became the first Indian after her idol Mary Kom to win back-to-back World Championship titles. Overall, this was the 13th gold medal that India has won at the World Championships (all editions combined) with Mary Kom winning 6 of them.

Later in the evening, India will have a chance to add another gold medal to their tally with Lovlina Borgohain set to take on Australia's Caitlin Parker in the 75kg final.
