Malaysia Open: PV Sindhu Sails Into Rd 2; Srikanth, Praneeth Knockout Out

India's leading women shuttler PV Sindhu opened her New Year campaign in emphatic fashion, registered a convincing win over Evgeniya Kosetskaya of Russia in the first round of the Malaysis Masters. The 2019 World Champion took just 35 minutes to brush aside the challenge of her Russian opponent and join her country mate Saina Nehwal in the second round of the women's singles. However, it was a bad day in the office for men shuttlers as World Championships bronze-medallist B Sai Praneeth and seasoned campaigner Kidambi Srikanth bowed out early from the 500 Series tournament The other Indian in the fray in the women’s singles event, London Olympics bronze medallist Saina needed just 36 minutes to get the better of Belgium’s Lianne Tan. On Tuesday, the Indian doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty crashed out of the tournament after losing to Malaysia's Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi.
