Shubman Gill Fined For Slow Over Rate In CSK vs GT IPL 2024 Clash

Shubman Gill was announced guilty of breaching the IPL's Code Of Conduct for maintaining slow over-rate during the CSK vs GT fixture in Chennai on March 26 (Tuesday).

Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans (GT) captain, was fined for maintaining slow over rate during the team's away fixture against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday (March 26). Notably, GT lost their first match of the season when they failed to get the better of CSK in match number 7 of IPL 2024. GT may have won the toss and elected to bowl first but the Chennai batters were up to the task and scored a massive 143/8 in the first innings before restricting the opposition to 143/8 in 20 overs.

However, in an official statement released by the IPL, Gill was announced guilty of breaching the IPL's Code Of Conduct for maintaining slow over-rate. He had subsequently been fined Rs 12 lakh.

"Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 26," the IPL said in an official statement.

"As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined ₹12 lakh," it added.

Shivam Dube, Tushar Desphande Dazzle As CSK Beat GT By 63 Runs

As far as the match is concerned, CSK players Shivam Dube and Tushar Deshpande made a real impact as the defending champions beat GT by 63 runs. Dube scored 51 off 23 while Deshpande returned with figures of 2/21 as the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side completely dominated the fixture. For Gujarat, Rashid Khan (2/49) did strike twice but proved to be expensive while Sai Sudharsan top-scored with 37 off 31 but that did not prove to be enough on the day with David Miller and Wriddhiman Saha also chipping in with contributions worth 37 off 31 and 21 off 17 respectively. Deepak Chahar (2/28) and Mustafizur Rahman (2/30) were the other stand-out performers in a clinical performance by the Men in Yellow.
