Mumbai Indians (MI) succumbed to a narrow 6-run defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT) in a close encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday (March 24). While GT batted first and posted 168/9 in their 20 overs, MI, despite being 107/2 at the 12-over mark, failed to get past their target. The result meant MI's losing trend in their opening match of the season continued despite a change in captain with Hardik Pandya at the helm of affairs this time around.

However, soon after the defeat, MI's captain Hardik and their former skipper Rohit Sharma were seen involved in an animated chat. While Hardik came and hugged Rohit from behind, a visibly frustrated Rohit could be seen initiating a serious discussion. The video of the clip has gone viral on social media.

MI Replaced Rohit Sharma As Captain Ahead Of IPL 2024

For context, MI had replaced Rohit Sharma as the captain before the start of the 2024 season. Rohit had led them to each of their five titles in the competiton and even remains the captain across formats for India in international cricket but MI perhaps had an eye on the future and announced Hardik Pandya, who was included in a trade from GT before the auction, as their captain going forward.

Notably, no official word or statement has yet come from Rohit on him being replaced as the captain. However, Hardik has said that Rohit's hands will be there on his shoulders as the team goes through a transition in leadership. The two of them were even seen discussing a few things on the field related to tactics but their intense chat after the game was what captured the attention the most.
