Big Setback For Lucknow Super Giants! KL Rahul Out Of IPL 2023 Due To Injury: Report

Lucknow Super Giants 'injured' captain KL Rahul is expected to travel to Mumbai to undergo scans and then will head to the National Cricket Academy for rehabilitation.

Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul, who limped off the ground following his team's heartbreaking loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday (May 3), will most likely miss the remaining matches in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, PTI reported. Rahul sustained a serious thigh injury while running towards boundary to a Faf du Plessis cover drive off Marcus Stoinis bowling during LSG vs RCB IPL 2023 match. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or National Cricket Academy (NCA) are yet to share an official update, exact details on nature of Rahul's injury. As per the PTI report, the star middle-order batter will travel to Mumbai to undergo scans and then will head to the National Cricket Academy for rehabilitation.

BCCI Medical Team now faces the big challenge to get KL Rahul match-fit in time for World Test Championship final, set to be played between India and Australia from June 7 to 11 in London.

"Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul is currently with his IPL team but will leaving LSG camp on Thursday after his team's IPL 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday.

"Kl Rahul's scans will be done at the BCCI designated medical facility in Mumbai. His case as well as Jaydev's case will be handled by BCCI," a senior BCCI source told PTI.

The BCCI source told PTI that no scans have been done on Rahul till now due to swelling.

"When someone sustains an injury like this, there is considerable amount of pain and swelling that is there in and around the area. The swelling takes around 24 to 48 hours to heal and only after that can you perform the scan.

"Since he is an important member of Test team, it would only be prudent that he doesn't take any further part in IPL," he further added.

"Once the scans ascertain the degree of injury, the BCCI medical team will decide the course of action," said the source.

KL Rahul-less Lucknow Super Giants will take on Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Wednesday (May 3).
