IPL 2023: Here's Why GT Will Wear 'Lavender Jersey' In Their Final Home Game Vs SRH

Gujarat Titans hopes to inspire people to learn more about cancer prevention, make necessary lifestyle changes along with regular checkups for early detection.

Match number 62 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad (GT) and Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday (May 15) at Ahmedabad's iconic Narendra Modi Stadium. Notably, Hardik Pandya & Co. will wear lavender jersey in Monday's IPL 2023 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which is also their final home game this season. The initiative is to raise awareness, highlight critical issue of cancer. Every year thousands of people worldwide lose their lives to cancer. Colour Lavender was chosen because it symbolises all types of cancer, said a release by GT. The color is a solid reminder of the many lives affected by this deadly disease.

Through this initiative, Gujarat Titans hopes to inspire people to learn more about cancer prevention, make necessary lifestyle changes along with regular checkups for early detection, which can significantly reduce the risk of developing the disease, as per a press release from the team.

Col Arvinder Singh, COO of Gujarat Titans stated, "Cancer causes millions of deaths worldwide and with a devastating impact on patients and their families. We are happy to do our bit in raising awareness about cancer, which not only is an effort to educate people about the importance of early detection but also underscores the significance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to reduce cancer risks. Our team is committed to drive positive change and contribute to the global fight against cancer."

Cancer is reportedly the second most common cause of death globally. In 2020, the dreaded disease caused about 9.9 million deaths. 

Gujarat Titans' captain, Hardik Pandya said, "Cancer is a battle fought by millions in India and across the globe, and as a team, we feel responsible towards raising awareness about this deadly disease. Wearing lavender jerseys is our way of showing solidarity with cancer patients, survivors, and their families. We hope our actions will inspire others to take preventive measures and support those who are fighting this battle."
