IPL 2023: 17.50 Crore Purchase Cameron Green Available Only As Batter Till April 13

The 23-year-old Aussie star become the second highest earner in a single IPL Auction after he was purchased for Rs 17.50 Crore by MI.

While Cameron Green was listed as an all-rounder at the IPL 2023 Mini-Auctions held in Kochi last month and was already expected to draw home a fat paycheque before he was eventually bought by the Mumbai Indians for INR 17.50 Crore, it is now being learnt that Green might be available only as a batter till April 13.

This is because of Cricket Australia's (CA) Workload Management Policy Guidelines which the franchises will have to adhere to. The Times of India had access to an email which BCCI's CEO and IPL COO wrote in a communication to the 10 participating franchises on the day of auction.

In this email, CA informed BCCI that even though Green will be available throughout, if he plays all the four matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he will not bowl for a duration of four weeks after the conclusion of the fourth Test match slated to happen from 9th to 13th March. The same has been quoted in this TOI report.

Green Second-Most Expensive Player Sold In An IPL Auction

Notably, the 23-year-old Aussie star become the second highest earner in a single IPL Auction after he was purchased for Rs 17.50 Crore. The highest amount given to an individual for a single season was also this year with Sam Curran being purchased by the Punjab Kings for Rs 18.5 Crore.

Green is currently receiving treatment for a broken finger which ruled him out of the third Australia vs South Africa Test match and it remains to be seen how he long he takes to recover.

Not only Cricket Australia but even the BCCI wants to monitor the workload of players, especially those who they have shortlisted for the ODI World Cup set to happen later in the year. The National Cricket Academy has been given this responsibility of keeping a check on player's workload in the T20 tournament.
