IPL 2021: Taliban Ban Broadcast In Afghanistan Due To Anti-Islamic Content

The Taliban have banned the telecast of IPL 2021 in Afghanistan. The ban has been imposed because the Taliban is apprehensive about anti-Islamic content being broadcast during the IPL.

IPL 2021: Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, their decrees have continued. Now, the Taliban regime have banned IPL’s telecast in Afghanistan. The UAE leg of the IPL 2021 will not be telecasted in the Islamic state. The ban has been imposed because the Taliban is apprehensive about anti-Islamic content being broadcast during the IPL. Taliban rulers in Afghanistan have banned most of the means of entertainment including many sports. Taliban have also banned women from participating in any sport.

Former Afghanistan Cricket Board media manager and journalist M Ibrahim Momand tweeted, "The broadcast of IPL 2021 in Afghanistan has been banned. The order comes in the wake of fears that anti-Islamic content will be broadcast during IPL matches." He tweeted this after the first match of the second phase of IPL was played between Chennai and Mumbai in UAE.   

Test match against Australia canceled due to Taliban decree

The Taliban regime had ordered a ban on women playing cricket and other sports in Afghanistan. The Australian Cricket Board (CA) was irked by this and decided to cancel the proposed one-off Test match with Afghanistan. The Test match was scheduled to be played from November 27. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had appealed to CA not to cancel the match. The board said it was "unable to change the current situation in Afghanistan."

Naseeb Khan appointed as new ACB CEO

The ACB on Monday announced that it has appointed Naseeb Khan as the new CEO. Khan will replace Hamid Shinwari, who was appointed to the post in April 2021. The ACB tweet reads, "Naseeb Khan has been introduced as the new CEO of Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) by board chairman Azizullah. He has a master's degree and has knowledge of cricket as well."

Afghanistan to play T20 World Cup in UAE 

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played between October 17 and November 14 in UAE and Oman this year. The Afghanistan team is scheduled to participate in the T20 World Cup. It remains to be seen whether the Taliban regime also bans its broadcast.
