IPL 2020 Auction: 8 Franchises Splurge Around Rs 140 Crores To Buy 62 Players

With 338 players in the fray and 73 slots up for the taking, 62 players eventually got sold in the IPL Player auctions that lasted over six hours.

The players auction for Indian Premier League 2020 season held in Kolkata on Thursday saw the eight teams bidding aggressively to get their picks with an aim to fine tune and balance their squads for the thirteenth edition of the tournament, slated to be played next year. With 338 players in the fray and 73 slots up for the taking, 62 players eventually got sold in the auctions that lasted over almost six hours. Pat Cummins re-wrote the auction record books after the Aussie speedster racked up a whooping Rs 15.5 crore to become the most expensive overseas buy till date. Joining Cummins as the most lucrative picks of the day were his Australian team-mate Glen Maxwell and South African all-rounder Chris Morris who all fetched prices over 10 crores in the auctions. A total of approximately Rs 1.4 billion was splurged by the eight teams with Rajasthan Royals heading the pack with 11 buys.
