Indian cricket team avoids Vijay Mallya at Virat Kohli charity event
New Delhi: Absconding Indian businessman Vijay Mallya, who flew from the country last year is trying best to make his presence felt by making public appearances.
The 61-year-old was first spotted during India’s clash against Pakistan on Sunday at Edgbaston and he was seen talking to Indian legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, pictures of which made rounds on the internet.
On Monday, Mallya again made headlines as he was one of the attendees at the Virat Kohli charity ball for Justice and Care Organization – an entity which fights towards human trafficking.
However, the Indian cricket team members were embarrassed to see Vijay Mallya at the charity dinner in London and immediately left the place.
A source inside the team said, cricketers were there for 30 minutes and most of them left the place after spotting Mallya as nobody wanted him in the same frame. Most of the cricketers were scared if somebody clicks them together with the absconding Mallya.
The former Royal Challengers Bangalore owner, who is currently in the United Kingdom, was declared "absconder" by a Mumbai court.
Unpaid loans of over Rs 9,000 crore by his now defunct Kingfisher airlines made him flee to the UK on March 2 last year. He has been defying court orders even as as the Supreme Court ordered him to appear before it in person with his passport on March 30, 2016.
