The Bengaluru boy playing just his 12th Test, took just 19 innings to reach Mount 1000, and is only after Vinod Kambli and Cheteshwar Pujara.

India opening batsman Mayank Agarwal has become the third fastest Indian batsman to get to 1000 runs in Test cricket. The right-handed opening batsman achieved the feat against Australia on day three of the ongoing Pink Ball test match at Adelaide Oval. While Vinod Kambli took 14 innings in 12 Test matches, the current team-mate Cheteshwar Pujara took 18 innings in 11 matches. The 29-year-old hit a boundary off the bowling of Mitchell Starc in the very first over of day-3, bringing up his 1000 runs in the Test cricket. Agarwal, who had made 17 off 40 deliveries in the first innings, could score just nine in the second innings. Meanwhile, India recorded their lowest ever total in Test cricket (36/9) on the third day of the first Test between India and Australia on Saturday at the Adelaide Oval. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood's stunning spell against Virat Kohli & co., followed by over 50-run partnership from Aussie opening duo - Joe Burns and Matthew Wade made the Indian boys fall miserably. Having conceded a 53-run first innings lead, with the Indians adding a further nine to it on Friday night itself, Australia moved into driver's seat early in the first session itself as they ended Indian innings at 36.
