New Delhi: Indian women's team will kickstart their campaign in the ICC Women's T2O World Cup by taking on defending champion and hosts Australia in their opening group fixture of the showpiece event at the Sydney Showground on Friday. Both India and Australia have warmed up nicely for the tournament by securing impressive wins in their warm up encounters against South Africa and West Indies, respectively. In the last encounter between the two teams, Australia beat India by 11 runs to win the final of the women's Twenty20 tri-series in Melbourne. However India had tasted victory against the Aussies in the round robin stage of the tournament. In the ICC marquee event which is being competed by 10 of most formidable women's T2OI teams in the world, India have been grouped along with Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Group A. While host Australia have been the most successful team in the tournament history with four titles in their kitty, India's best effort in the tournament has been making it to the finals at the last edition in 2018. The premier T2OI tournament in the international women's circuit being hosted by Australia is the seventh edition since its inception in 2009. The 23-match tournament will be played out between Feb 21 and March 8 and the title clash will be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on International Women's Day.
