Former cricketers to promote school cricket league

New Delhi [India], January 17 (ANI): The School Games Federation of India (SGFI) on Wednesday announced that former Indian cricketers Madan Lal and Chetan Sharma have come on board to support the National School Cricket League (NSCL).

The NSCL is a franchise-based school cricket league for under-18 school cricketers and the SGFI will be conducting a nation-wide talent-hunt, trial camps and promotion across India to select the players for the 16 teams.

The selected youngsters will then represent their respective 16 state teams in a school cricket league which will be held at premier venues across India.

The two cricket icons launched the SGFI's promotional activity for the NSCL with an exciting interface with young cricket trainees, sharing cricket tips with them at the iconic Bharat Nagar Cricket Academy here in the national capital.

On the occasion, a member of the 1983-World Cup-winning Indian team, Madan Lal, said, "School cricket is the base and it needs to be revived and made stronger for the country to have a vast pool of talented players. I also remember several of my former India team-mates, including my ex-captain, Kapil Dev, played a lot of school cricket."

He added, "I firmly believe that school is the nursery where one can develop a youngster' game. I must congratulate the SGFI for launching the National School Cricket League and I hope we will be able to strengthen and popularise school cricket in India through this league."
