UCL 2023-24 Final: Carvajal & Vinicius Help Real Madrid Win Record 15th Champions League Title As Real Madrid Defeat Borussia Dortmund 2-0

Real Madrid clinched their record-extending 15th UEFA Champions League title by defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the final at London's Wembley Stadium on June 1 (Saturday).  Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior were the stars for Los Blancos, leading them to a phenomenal victory in the final. Dortmund's impressive performance in the first half was laid to waste as they were left to regret their missed opportunities.

Despite Dortmund's opportunities, particularly in the first half, solid defence from Real Madrid and a strong second-half attack propelled the La Liga side to victory. This win marked Real Madrid's second triumph in three seasons, coinciding with the legendary Toni Kroos bidding farewell to club football on a title-winning note.

Real Madrid's Second-Half Surge Stuns Dortmund

Karim Adeyemi and Niclas Fullkrug, in particular, had opportunities to give Dortmund the lead in the first half but failed to capitalise on their chances. Real Madrid initially struggled to find their rhythm in the game, yet they held Dortmund to a goalless first half.

However, a more cohesive Real Madrid emerged in the second half, showing improved attacking intent and keeping Dortmund under pressure. The match finally saw its first goal being scored when Dani Carvajal converted Toni Kroos' corner with a well-executed header into the net in the 74th minute. Less than 10 minutes later, Vinicius Jr capitalised on Jude Bellingham's pass to extend Real Madrid's lead to 2-0, sealing their victory.

This resulted in Toni Kroos departing Real Madrid with his 6th Champions League title, as Los Blancos completed a double this season, having also secured the La Liga title. Madrid has secured six trophies in the past 11 seasons alone. For Carlo Ancelotti, it marked his fifth title as a manager, setting a record, in addition to the two he earned during his playing career.
