Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce have officially announced the appointment of legendary Jose Mourinho as their new manager. The appointment was announced on Sunday, June 2, but Jose Mourinho appeared to have made the pre-announcement during his visit to Wembley Stadium in London for the UEFA Champions League 2023/24 final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.

“Merhaba [Hello] Fenerbahce fans! See you tomorrow at Kadikoy and let’s start our journey together,” said Jose Mourinho, in the video posted by Fenerbahce on their official 'X' account.

The signing of Jose Mourinho is a big step in the history of the club, as the Portuguese manager has a rich pedigree in European football. He has won the UEFA Champions League titles with FC Porto and Inter Milan, UEFA Europa League with Manchester United, and the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League with AS Roma.

Fenerbahce's Impressive 2023/24 Season

Fenerbahce produced their best league season ever, as they acheived a 99-point league season, but still it was not enough to end their 10-year wait for a league title, as Galatasary notched up their personal best season by breaking the 100-point mark. Galatasary won their second successive Super Lig title, and Fenerbahce endured a third consecutive second-place finish.

In the UEFA Europa Conference League, they bowed out at the quarter final stage at the hands of now-newly-crowned champions Olympiacos on penalties.

Overall, it was a season to remember for the Turkish giants, as several star players such as Edin Dzeko, Dusan Tadic, Fred, Caglar Soyuncu produced impeccabel performances throughout the season, and the club endured only one league defeat the entire season.

With the arrival of Jose Mourinho, the squad can be optimistic in their hopes for European glory as thr Portuguese manager has a rich history of making the underdogs reign supreme in the tightest of situations.
