Qatar vs Ecuador FIFA World Cup 2022 LIVE: Hosts Qatar, participating in their first ever FIFA World Cup, will take on Ecuador in the opening match of FIFA World Cup 2022 at jam-packed 60,000-seat Al Bayt Stadium. Felix Sanchez Bas' Qatar, the present AFC Asian Cup holders, will be aiming to become a country from AFC to win a match in FIFA World Cup. Kuwait (1982) is the only team among a total of 11 AFC teams to avoid defeat in a World Cup match. They ended their World Cup match against Czechoslovakia in a 1-1 draw.

Qatar will also look to avoid becoming the only team after South Africa (2010) to be knocked out of the World Cup tournament in the first round. Since July 2017, Félix Sánchez, manager of Qatar national football team, has been in charge of the squad. 

While Qatar is the only debutant among 32 teams, Ecuador is participating in their fourth FIFA World Cup edition. Ecuador's record at FIFA World Cup, till date: 10 matches, four wins, one draw and five defeats. If Ecuador manages to beat Qatar or end the match in a draw, they will match their longest streak of remaining unbeaten in the tournament. Notably, Ecuador did not lose in their last two World Cup matches (W1 D1).
