Fifa World Cup 2022: Canada Crashes Out Of Tournament After 4-1 Loss To Croatia

Canada lost its Group F tie to Canada 4-1 in a do-or-die match on Sunday. With no point under their belt, Canada's World Cup dreams were dashed with the loss.

After getting a second-minute 1-0 lead over Croatia, Canada failed to retain the lead until the final whistle in their Fifa World Cup Group F match on Sunday as Luka Modric’s men won the tie 4-1. With the loss, Canada has been sent packing out of the World Cup without a single point on the Group F table.

Canada’s historic goal came in the second minute as  Alphonso Davies headed an aerial pass from Tajon Buchanan past Croatian goalkeeper Dominic Livakovic. This was Canada’s first goal in World Cups.

The Atiba Hutchinson-led side held onto the slim 1-0 lead till the 36^th minute but Croatia’s Andrej Kramaric pulled off an equalizer, his 21^st international goal.

Marko Livata, who was denied a goal in the 35^th minute by Canda goalie Milan Borjan, gave his side the lead in the 44^th minute with a stunning strike to the right of Borjan. Croatia held on to the lead as the teams went into halftime.

Croatia ploughed on past halftime to put another one on the scoreboard as Andrej Kramaric scored his second goal with an assist from Ivan Perisic in the 70^th minute. Croatia's onslaught came to a close with the final goal of the day by Lovro Majer in stoppage time (94^th minute).

Croatia is now at the top of the Group F points table with 4 points followed by Morocco, also with 4 points. Belgium is placed third with 3 points, while Canada could not open its points tally.

On Sunday, Canada became the first side since Denmark against Brazil in 1998 to lose a match at the World Cup having scored inside two minutes in that game.
