FIFA President Gianni Infantino Tests Positive For Covid-19, Will Be In Quarantine For At Least 10 Days

“All people who came into contact with the FIFA President during the last few days have been informed accordingly and they are being requested to take the necessary steps,” the FIFA statement said.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has tested positive for coronavirus, the apex global soccer governing body said on Tuesday. The 50-year old Infantino who reported mild symptoms of Covid-19 has placed himself in self-isolation and will quarantine for at least 10 days, FIFA added in a statement. “All people who came into contact with the FIFA President during the last few days have been informed accordingly and they are being requested to take the necessary steps,” the FIFA statement said. “FIFA sincerely wishes President Infantino a speedy recovery.” Infantino has been taking all necessary precautions since the outbreak of the pandemic and has travelled little during the coronavirus pandemic. However the FIFA President attended a signing ceremony at the White House last month to mark normalized relations for Israel with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The news of Infantino contracting the highly contagious Covid-19 viral infection comes in the backdrop of Switzerland reporting a massive spike in COVID-19 cases over the past one week. The central European nation of Switzerland has reported 127,000 cases this year, with more than 23,000 since last Friday. Earlier in the week, Infantino expressed his disinterest in European Super League, a newly conceptualized breakaway competition being planned by major European soccer clubs. “For me, I’m not interested in Bayern versus Liverpool, but Bayern versus Boca Juniors from Buenos Aires. Liverpool has 180million fans worldwide. Flamengo about 40million. Flamengo has 39million of these 40million fans in Brazil, but Liverpool has perhaps only 5million fans in England, the other 175million around the world.
