Euro 2017: Austria marks historic win over Switzerland

London [U.K.], July. 19 (ANI): Austria marked a dream debut at the European Championship by crushing Switzerland with a 1-0 drubbing in group C in the Dutch city of Deventer.

This was Austria's first win in either the men's or women's Euros.

Striker Nina Burger put Austria in front on 15 minutes after latching on to a throughball by Sarah Zadrazil and slotting low past Gaelle Thalmann, to hand her side a 1-0 lead at half-time, reports the Guardian.

Rahel Kiwic was then given a red card for tripping Burger and denying a goalscoring opportunity.

Despite the disadvantage Switzerland worked on their late chances, but Austria goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger saved two important goals to ensure a winning start to her team in the tournament.

Austria now face group favourites France on Saturday. (ANI)
