New Delhi: New Delhi: Babar Azam-led Pakistan is set to clash against England in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022, Sunday. The summit clash (ENG vs PAK) at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will be a repeat of the 1992 ODI World Cup final. 30 years ago, at the same venue, Imran Khan-led Pakistan had defeated England by 22 runs to win their first World Cup final. Notably, Imran Khan went on to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The uncanny resemblance led to former India captain Sunil Gavaskar jokingly predicting that Babar Azam would become Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2048 if his team lifts the T20 World Cup 2022 trophy in Australia. Gavaskar's comment left everyone in splits. The video of the same, featuring Sunil Gavaskar and Shane Watson, went viral on the internet.

“You know what, if Pakistan do win the World Cup, in 2048 Babar Azam would be the Prime Minister of Pakistan,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

One the eve of England vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2022 final, Pakistan captain Babar Azam was too asked about the resemblance between Pakistan's T20 World Cup campaign and their historic 50-overs World Cup win in 1992.

"Ofcourse, the similarities are there. We will try to win the trophy, it is a big honour for me to lead this team and especially at this big ground. We will try to give our 100 per cent and win. We did not start well, but the way team came back, they fought like tigers. We will look to continue from here and we will look to give our best," said Babar during a pre-match press conference.
