St Lucia: West Indies and South Africa are playing a 2-match Test series in the Caribbean. SA defeated WI by an innings and 63 runs in the first Test match here. South African pace attack demolished West Indian batting like a pack of cards. Wickets kept tumbling throughout the three days.
If in the first innings it was, Nortje and Lungi Ngidi who did the damage, in the second innings, it was the brilliance of Kagiso Rabada. Out of the 20 wickets, 18 were picked by these fast-bowlers. The West Indies batsmen looked like they had no answers to the questions raised by the SA bowlers.
In the batting department too, Quinton de Kock played brilliant innings of 141 runs. He was also the man of the match for his performance. de Kock said: "Haven't given it much thought yet. Obviously a proud moment, got the team into a good position. Glad we got over the line," on receiving the award.
After getting all-out for 97 runs, West Indies were struggling to overcome South Africa's first-innings lead. At the end of Day 2, West Indies were 82/4 which is still 143 runs behind SA's score, but Day 3 was no better and West Indies lost the game by an innings.
West Indies failed to impress yet again with their batting and now they find themselves in a spot of bother as West Indies face a Test match loss on Day-3. Despite winning a Test series against Bangladesh in February, West Indies continue to falter when they face tougher opponents.
