Vijay Hazare Round 4, Group C: Irfan strikes form in losing cause; Bengal, TN win thrillers
Let’s have a brief look on the results of all the games of Group C, played in the fourth round of the tournament
The round 4 of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy saw some of the terrific performances in the Group C matches held on Sunday. While Bengal surprisingly outplayed Tripura, Irfan Pathan bowled a terrific spell to scalp 2 wickets. However, his efforts went in vain as they lost the competition against Haryana in a low-score affair.
The third match turned out to be a nail-biting event despite being another low-score game. Tamil Nadu were fortunate enough to win the 134-run chase by one wicket against Rajasthan.

Bengal vs Tripura, MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
After winninig the toss, Bengal opted to bat first. Skipper Manoj Tiwary scored 67 which helped Bengal post 272 runs on the board in fifty overs.
In reply, Tripura had a phenomenal start as the opening duo of Smit Patel and Nirupam Chowdhary added 103 runs for the first wicket. Patel scored a ton while Chowdhary got a fifty. However, their efforts weren’t enough to clinch the game as they fell short by 9 runs and lost the match.

Haryana vs Jammu and Kashmir, Guru Nanak College Ground, Chennai
After wining the toss, J&K’s decision of batting first was overturned by the Haryana bowlers. Skipper Amit Mishra took a 3-wicket haul to floor the Parvez Rasool led side for 108 runs in 34.3 overs. On the other hand, Haryana chased down the target with 83 balls to spare and 7 wickets in hand.
Veteran Indian speedster Irfan Pathan bowled a clinical spell of 6 overs where he conceded just 7 runs and scalped 2 wickets. However, it wasn’t enough to restrict Haryana with such a low-score.

Tamil Nadu vs Rajasthan, TI Cycles Ground, Murugappa, Chennai
Another low-score but a nail-biting affair where Tamil Nadu cleverly clinched the game with one wicket in hand.
TN won the toss and opted to bowl first. A five-wicket haul from Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore and 3 wickets from Varun Chakravathi mauled Rajasthan as they managed to score just 133 runs before losing all the 10 wickets within 37.1 overs.
In return, Rajasthan gave tough competition as Deepak Chahar and TM Ul-Haq picked-up 3 and 2 wickets respectively. Still they failed to save the game. On the other hand, despite losing 4 of their batsmen on a duck, TN successfully won the match.
