Sourav Ganguly's Privacy At Risk! Phone Worth Rs 1.60 Lakh Gets Stolen From Kolkata Home, Concerns Raised Over Data Theft

Sourav Ganguly, the ex-India captain and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, has registered an official complaint regarding the theft of his mobile home from his Kolkata residence. The 51-year-old reached to the Thakurpukur Police Station in Kolkata to file a complaint for a missing diary. Ganguly's mobile was traced to 11:30 am (IST) in the morning on Saturday (January 10). From the details learnt so far, Ganguly's phone was worth Rs 1.60 lakh. 

Ganguly had been using his phone extensively before it went missing in January 2024. Post the incident, concerns were raised by the ex-India batter regarding potential exposure to personal details which was stored on the device. The former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Ganguly asled for help from the law enforcing officers to protect his personal data from either misuse or compromise.

Deeply concerned about the loss of my phone: Ganguly

The latest update on the case, as per a senior police officer, is that the search operations have begun to find Ganguly's missing phone. They will now be interrogating the workers who are painting his house in Behala residence.

"I think my phone was stolen from home. I last saw the phone around 11:30 am on January 19. I tried to find the phone but couldn't find it. Deeply concerned about the loss of my phone. Because the phone has multiple contact numbers and access to personal information and accounts. I request you to trace the phone or take appropriate action." Ganguly reportedly said as quoted by HT Bangla while he filed a complaint at Thakurpukur Police Station.

The former BCCI chief has urged the police to either find the phone or protect his contact and bank account details from potential misuse.
