Shikhar Dhawan Retirement: Shikhar Dhawan has announced retirement from all forms of cricket on August 24 (Saturday). The left-handed India batter played 34 Test matches, 167 One Day Internationals (ODI) and 68 T20Is for India. Affectionately called 'Gabbar' by fans, Dhawan took to social media to announce his retirement with immediate effect and thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) and his family, fans, India teammates and childhood coaches.

Dhawan, who scored seven centuries in Tests, 17 in ODIs and 11 half-centuries in T20Is, uploaded an emotional 1 minute 17 seconds video on social media, officially announcing his retirement. In the video, he expressed that it was always his dream to play for India and he was fortunate enough to live it.

"I find myself at a crossroads, where looking back, I see only memories and looking ahead, I see a new life. Playing for India was always my dream and I was fortunate enough to live it. I'm grateful to many people for that—my family, my childhood coaches and the teammates I've played with over the years. I gained a new family, fame, and love. But as they say, to move forward, you have to turn the page," Dhawan shared in a post on 'X'.

Dhawan Finds Peace In Retirement, Thankful For His Time With Team India

Dhawan shared that while he's no longer playing for India, he's at peace, cherishing the opportunity he had to represent his country.

"I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket. As I bid farewell to my cricketing journey, I have peace in my heart. I am thankful to the BCCI and DDCA and my fans who have given me so much love. I played a lot for my country. I only say this to myself, that you don't need to be upset about not playing for your country again, but be happy that you had the opportunity to do so, that I played." Dhawan concluded.

Coming to the Indian Premier League (IPL), Dhawan had a lengthy IPL career, participating in every season from 2008 to 2024. He began his IPL journey with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and also represented Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings. Dhawan clinched the IPL title once with SRH.
